The Wailers created their first label in 1967 when Bob Marley came back from Willmington, the label was called Wail'NSoul'M. They produced some good records like "Hypocrite/ Nice Time", "Stir It Up/This Train", "Tread Oh", "Mellow Mood". After these dark records, the Wail'N Soul'M closed the door because it failed. But few years later they opened Tuff Gong record.
They got a record shop "Soul Shack" wich was a local behind the Joe Gibbs studio, next to the shop there was a fast food, they sold Wailers records, African combs wich made by Peter Tosh, and records of Aston Barrett's label "Cobra" like the record "Eastern Memphis" wich was distributed by Tuff Gong 127 King ST. When the record shop opened, Rita or Bob distributed the records with a bike. The Wailers always were in the shop.
Bob ask to a friend designer Guy Coombs to draw to him a label. Guy Coombs printed the label with his money because Bob didn't have . The Wailers made their songs in A side and the dub for the djs in the B-side. "Tuff Gong" was simply written on the single. But without radio promotions, and money Tuff Gong closed the door. After the Island deal, Tuff Gong reborn in the business.
In 1972, Bunny Wailer wanted to create his own label (Peter Tosh too), he found two names for the label : "Solomonic" & "Intelligent Diplomat", Peter choose "Intelligent Diplomate" and Bunny "Solomonic". In 1972 Bunny released "Search For Love" and "Bide Up", in 1974 "Battering Down Sentence","Rastaman" and in 1975 "Arab Oil Weapon", he continued with this label, Bunny's album BlackHeartMan could be compilation of various Solomonic's record.
After the Wailers break, Peter Tosh create his own label Intel Diplo HIM, which was Intelligent Diplomat to His Imperial Majesty. The first record of this label was "You Can't Blame The Youth" & "Mark Of The Beast" wich was credited Peter Tosh & the Wailers. Peter Tosh continued with his label until his death the 11th september 1987.
Today many collectors are looking for these old records, from differents labels. They are really precious for Wailers fans, you can find some of them on the internet.
